… and rightfully so. Now don’t get me wrong. I am in no way saying that Vick is guilty, I am, however, glad that these three companies have done this. Vick is, as an American Citizen, innocent until proven guilty, though, it isn’t looking good for him right now.
None of the three have permanently ended their relationship with Vick, but have simply stopped sales of his merchandise.
Nike has suspended his contract, without pay, and will not sale any Vick merchandise. They, Nike, have not terminated his contract, and have not said that they intend to terminate the contract. But, I am sure if he is found guilty, he will be dropped rather quickly.
Reebok, as official uniform provider of the NFL, has halted sales of Vick merchandise on their website, and in retail stores. They have also offered to take back any Vick items that stores have in stock.
Donruss, one of the top four sports trading card companies, has announced that they will pull all Vick cards from their future sets. Amy Powell (no relation) is the president of Donruss, and is an avid dog lover. She brings her 5 dogs with her to work, though she says that the decision concerning Vick was one made by the group of executive, not by her personally.
On a personal note, I don’t know if Vick is guilty or not, but I do know that his reputation is in shambles. If he is innocent, I think that he should immediatly show that he is an animal lover. I wouldn’t recommend adopting dogs, but speak out against cruelty to animals, and anything he can to make up for these allegations.
