I would attempt to set the matchups for the playoffs, but that would require digging through a pretty long list of tie breaker scenarios for each game… and I don’t think I could wade through it after this past weekend.

What do you think? Am I way off base with a pick (or two)? Let me know, by commenting below!

How many times have you stubbed your toe, and strung together a string of expletives that would make a sailor blush, only to hear your darling child repeat said expletives? While this may cause a few giggles the first time you hear your two year old swear, but when you think about everything they see, it really makes you think.

A few months ago, a twitter friend started talking about this new game that was going to be starting soon, and was asking if anyone wanted to be part of the beta testing group. My curiosity was piqued. I wanted in, even though I didn’t know what the game was exactly.

I waited a day or two to see if my initial curiosity subsided, and when it didn’t, I messaged this twitter friend, asking for a beta pack.

A few weeks later, I got the pack, and was excited to get started, especially when I saw exactly what the game was. I loved the fact that the goal of Akoha was to get people to complete these random acts of kindness to start a chain of people “paying it forward.”

The gist of the game is to complete the tasks on the card, and once you have, you pass that card on to the person that you did the task for, and then they can get started by paying it forward.

This is where my moral dilemma started. In all honesty, I feel like the fact that I am asking someone to go online to confirm that I was nice cheapens the entire act. Personally, most of the things on the cards were things that I already do (buy someone a coffee, make someone smile, buy someone lunch, etc), just to brighten peoples day, and in my opinion, giving them a card afterwards says that the only reason I did what I did was to get points for a game, when that is and never will be the motive behind my actions, makes me look like completely selfish, rather than selfless.

Maybe I am really overthinking things. Maybe not. But until I can settle this moral dilemma, my Akoha cards will stay in my messenger bag, as a reminder that only I know about (well, now the world knows), to be nice to people.

Please, if you are able, consider donating to support me during the month of Movember, in my fight against Prostate Cancer.

I really enjoyed this weeks games, especially the overtime games, and last second heroics (and heroic attempts). At 10-5-1 last week, I am now 95-64-1 on the season, and I look forward to the last few weeks of the season, and the playoff chase. One thing that I was impressed with is that the stars really seemed to step up in order to carry their teams last week.

So, without further ado, here they are. Week Twelve’s picks:

Cincinnati (1-8-1) at Pittsburgh (7-3)

After a tough game against the Chargers, Pittsburgh gets to make a statement against Cincy at home, and I really like the chances of them actually coming out and making a real statement!

Pitt Wins

Philadelphia (5-4-1) at Baltimore (6-4)

1) How does a team with as much talent as the Eagles have only TIE the freaking Bengals?
2) How does a star that has been in the NFL for as long as Donovan McNabb has not know that a game can end in a tie.

After watching the recap of this game, I was thoroughly disgusted with the outcome. Normally I would pick Philly, but after the display last week, and the way that Flacco and the Ravens have played of late, the pick is pretty obvious…

Baltimore Wins

Houston (3-7) at Cleveland (4-6)

Sage Rosenfels makes too many mistakes for him to ever be considered as a starter, and after the past few weeks, his role as a backup could be in jeopardy.

Cleveland Wins

San Francisco (3-7) at Dallas (6-4)

Romo gets a nice homecoming against the 49′ers.

Dallas Wins

Tampa Bay (7-3) at Detroit (0-10)

At 7-3, Tampa would be leading (or tied for first) in 5 of the other 7 divisions. While that sinks in, the Bucs will step up to 8-3.

Bucs Win

Minnesota (5-5) at Jacksonville (4-6)

Both teams had high hopes for the post-season when the year started, but right now, both teams are struggling to stay alive with only the Vikings having a real opportunity to make the post season (at 5-5, they are in a 3-way tie for first in the NFC North).

Minnesota Wins

Buffalo (5-5) at Kansas City (1-9)

After a HOT start, the Bills have crashed… and hard! But this week they have a perfect opportunity to keep their hat in the ring for a shot at the post season.

Bills Win

New England (6-4) at Miami (6-4)

I think that Matt Cassel put a lot of stories to bed last week in their game against the Jets, even though they lost. This week I think the Pats will be looking to exact their revenge on the Dolphins.

New England Wins

Chicago (5-5) at St Louis (2-8)

The Bears have to win in order to keep pace with the Vikes and Packers, and luckily for them they have the the easiest game of the 3 this week.

Chicago Wins

New York Jets (7-3) at Tennessee (10-0)

Like the Patriots last year, I can’t pick against Tennessee until they actually lose.

Tennessee Wins

Oakland (2-8) at Denver (6-4)

Despite the injuries, Denver managed to beat the Falcons in Atlanta (they were undefeated in Atlanta until Sunday), so in front of a home crowd, against the Raiders, I expect some fireworks from the Broncos offense.

Broncs Win

Carolina (8-2) at Atlanta (6-4)

A divisional game between one of the best teams in the league (Carolina) and one of the most surprisingly good teams in the league (Atlanta), this should be really good, as the Falcons fight for a playoff spot. Oh, and did I mention, that the Falcons are 4-1 at home (with the loss being by only 4 points, in a game they could have won)?

Atlanta Wins

New York Giants (9-1) at Arizona (7-3)

I like both of these teams, but I think that the Giants are really hard to beat lately, and as good as the Cardinals are, I think that they will save their upset for the playoffs.

New York Wins

Washington (6-4) at Seattle (2-8)

After picking Washington to win last week in an upset over Dallas, this week is pretty much a no brainer at Seattle.

Washington Wins

Indianapolis (6-4) at San Diego (4-6)

Normally I would expect this to be a much closer game, but with the Colts surging, and the Chargers barely hanging on, this one could get ugly for Bolts fans.

Indy Wins

Green Bay (5-5) at New Orleans (5-5)

I want the Saints to win this, and they very well could, but they have had a lot of trouble with consistency this year, but so have the Packers. I think this could be a shoot out, and if that is the case, then the upper hand belongs to Drew Brees and the Saints.

New Orleans Wins

There you have it… Week 11 is over, and fortunately for the Lions, they only have 5 more games until they get the first pick in the 2009 draft. What do you think? Am I way off base with a pick (or two)? Let me know, by commenting below!

Please, if you are able, consider donating to support me during the month of Movember, in my fight against Prostate Cancer.

I am not totally happy with where I am sitting so far, but it could be a lot worse. In a way I wish that I had a better record, but in all honesty, my struggles go hand in hand with the ups and downs that most teams have been through. At 11-3 last week, I am now 85-59 on the season, and I look forward to the last few weeks of the season, and the playoff chase. One thing that I was impressed with is that the stars really seemed to step up in order to carry their teams last week.

So, without further ado, here they are. Week Eleven’s picks:

New York Jets (6-3) at New England (6-3)

I go back and forth on this game… On one hand, New England held a good Buffalo team to less than 200 yards of total offense, but then again, the Jets put up 47 points, albeit against a pitiful Rams team that didn’t show any sparks at all. In all honesty, I think the Patriots are a better team, even without Brady.

New England Wins

Denver (5-4) at Atlanta (6-3)

I really think that Atlanta is on a roll this year, and Matt Ryan could shape up to be one of the better quarterbacks of our generation. Denver on the other hand is anemic defensively, which leads right into my pick.

Atlanta Wins

Minnesota (5-4) at Tampa Bay (6-3)

I like the heart of Minnesota in an upset in Tampa, especially after last weeks game.

Minnesota Wins

Baltimore (6-3) at New York Giants (8-1)

With McGahee back and Flacco looking like he’s been doing this for years, I like Baltimore’s chances, but playing in NY is a big equalizer.

New York Wins

Oakland (2-7) at Miami (5-4)

Miami could vault themselves into the playoff hunt with a win here.

Dolphins Win

New Orleans (4-5) at Kansas City (1-8)

Even though I have all but written New Orleans off this season, they get an easy one this week.

New Orleans Wins

Detroit (0-9) at Carolina (7-2)

After a pathetic performance (7 of 27 passing) by Jake Delhomme last week, he gets to redeem himself in front of a home crowd against the lowly Lions.

Panthers Win

Philadelphia (5-4) at Cincinnati (1-8)

Like Carolina, Philadelphia gets a freebie against the Bengals.

Philly Wins

Tie

Chicago (5-4) at Green Bay (4-5)

Green Bay is better than they have played lately, and at home, against a division rival, I expect Rodgers to show why Thompson and McCarthy were willing to take him over ‘what’s-his-name.’

Green Bay Wins

Houston (3-6) at Indianapolis (5-4)

This game means a lot to both teams, and I guarantee that Indy won’t have forgotten the last time they played the Texans (a near loss, with a dramatic come back in the 4th quarter). Of course, I am sure that Houston hasn’t forgotten that game either…

Colts Win

St Louis (2-7) at San Francisco (2-7)

After the drubbing the Rams took last week, this game could be a fight for respect… from both teams. If this is the only game on in your area, I feel sorry for you because it will probably be a snooze-fest.

San Francisco Wins

Arizona (6-3) at Seattle (2-7)

Regardless of the outcome, Arizona will remain in first place in the NFC West, and with a win, they will likely cement their place in the playoffs.

Cards Win

Tennessee (9-0) at Jacksonville (4-5)

I want to pick Jacksonville in this one, and at the beginning of the season, I probably would have chosen Jacksonville to win this game, but they are seriously struggling, and that isn’t a good place to be against a really tough Titans team that can beat you on defense, or with their running game, or with their newly found passing attack.

Tennessee Wins

San Diego (4-5) at Pittsburgh (6-3)

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Pittsburgh should be able to pull this one out and stay in first place for another week.

Pittsburgh Wins

Dallas (5-4) at Washington (6-3)

If this were in Dallas, I might pick the ‘Boys, but these two teams are pretty evenly matched, and in DC, I expect the home crowd to play the part of the 12th man.

Washington Wins

There you have it… Week 10 is over, and fortunately for the Lions, they only have 6 more games until they get the first pick in the 2009 draft. What do you think? Am I way off base with a pick (or two)? Let me know, by commenting below!

Please, if you are able, consider donating to support me during the month of Movember, in my fight against Prostate Cancer.

This past week was exciting to watch with several overtime victories, and a couple of come from behind wins (including the spectacular job by Tampa Bay coming back on KC for the OT win). At 11-3 (74-56 on the season), I am happy with where I am, considering where I have been.

Now for my picks!

Denver (4-4) at Cleveland (3-5)

I don’t think that I have to remind anyone that I’m not that sold on Denver as whole, but Cleveland hasn’t really been all that great this year either. I think while they are playing in hostile territory, the Broncos will come out on top.

Denver Wins

New Orleans (4-4) at Atlanta (5-3)

Wow, both teams have been surprising this year. Atlanta, surprisingly good, and New Orleans, surprisingly mediocre. That said, I think this is do or die time for NO, and for that reason alone I think they will squeak by the Falcons.

New Orleans Wins

Tennessee (8-0) at Chicago (5-3)

I think that Chicago should start Grossman, and let Orton have a week off in order to heal, just so that he is healthy down the stretch, and into the playoffs if they make it. Either way, I don’t think they have what it takes to hand Tennessee their first loss.

Tennessee Wins

Jacksonville (3-5) at Detroit (0-8)This may be the first game in a while that is actually winnable for Detroit, but Jacksonville is too good a team to allow that to happen.

Jacksonville Wins

Baltimore (5-3) at Houston (3-5)

While I want Houston to win, because I think they are better than 3-5, I think that Baltimore is a really tough team, and Joe Flacco seems like the real deal.

Baltimore Wins

Seattle (2-6) at Miami (4-4)

To further muddy the waters in the AFC East, Miami should be able to effectively end Seattle’s season, and Holmgren’s hopes at a decent “final season.”

Dolphins Win

Green Bay (4-4) at Minnesota (4-4)

Based on last week, this game got a lot harder to pick. Minnesota showed a lot of fire in their win, and GB showed a lot of heart in a near upset of the Titans. My opinion is that Green Bay, on the whole is a better team, but I like Minnesota’s chances at home this week.

Vikings Win

Buffalo (5-3) at New England (5-3)

Whoever wins this game (if the Jets fall to the Rams) is in first place alone in the AFC East, but that could change fast with every team within a game or two of the other. I really like New England’s chances at home.

Patriots Win

St Louis (2-6) at New York Jets (5-3)

I hope that the Jets lose, but I don’t think that will be the case this week at home… especially coming off a big win over the Bills last week.

New York Wins

Carolina (6-2) at Oakland (2-6)

Possibly the mismatch of the week. Atlanta blanked the Raiders, and Carolina could make that two blanks in a row.

Panthers Win

Indianapolis (4-4) at Pittsburgh (5-2)

Indy wasn’t spectacular in their win over New England last week, so Pittsburgh should be able to take care of business at home this week.

Pittsburgh Wins

Kansas City (1-7) at San Diego (3-5)

In order to have a chance at making the playoffs this year, San Diego MUST win this week, and they shouldn’t have too much trouble against the Chiefs.

San Diego Wins

New York Giants (7-1) at Philadelphia (5-3)

I keep thinking that this will be the upset of the week. I really think that this game is really winnable for Philadelphia, especially at home. I think the Giants are playing really well, and so are the Eagles.

Philly Wins

San Francisco (2-6) at Arizona (5-3)

I had high expectations for San Francisco this year, but they have all but been eliminated from any sort of having a successful season.

Arizona Wins

Bye: Cincinnati (1-8), Dallas (5-4), Tampa Bay (6-3), and Washington (6-2)

There you have it… Week 9 is over, and fortunately for the Lions, they only have 7 more games until they get the first pick in the 2009 draft. What do you think? Am I way off base with a pick (or two)? Let me know, by commenting below!

During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I’m growing a Moustache. That’s right I’m bringing the Mo back because I’m passionate about tackling men’s health issues and being proactive in the fight against prostate cancer.

To donate to my Mo you can either:
1. Click this link https://www.movember.com/ca/donate/donate-details.php?action=sponsorlink&rego=1785516&country=ca and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account, or
2. Write a cheque payable to the ‘Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada’, referencing my Registration Number 1785516 and mailing it to:

Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada
Attn: Movember
145 Front Street East
Suite 306
Toronto Ontario M5A 1E3

Donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
The money raised by Movember is donated directly to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada who will use the funds to create awareness and fund research across the country into prevention, detection and treatment, with a goal to ending the threat of prostate cancer.

Did you know:
- Every year around 24,700 Canadian men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and about 4,300 die of the disease, making it the number one cancer threat to Canadian men.
- 1 in 7 men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- All men over the age of 40 are potentially at risk and should talk to their doctor about the disease and early detection. Prostate cancer is 95% curable if detected and treated early.

For those that have supported Movember in previous years you can be very proud of the impact it has had and can check out the details at:
[ Fundraising Outcomes ].
Movember culminates at the end of month Gala Partés. If you would like to be part of this great night you’ll need to purchase a [ Gala Parté Ticket ].

Thanks for your support,
Chris

Please, if you are able, consider donating to support me during the month of Movember.

As the season progresses, things are beginning to fall into place, and the games are getting a bit easier to pick, but I am still waiting for a perfect week. Hey, I can dream can’t I? At 10-4 (63-53 on the season), I am slowly starting to push my self up to a respectable level.

Now for my picks!

New York Jets (4-3) at Buffalo (5-2)

Buffalo was embarrassed by the Dolphins last week, but in front of a home crowd, I expect them to be opportunistic, and angry in a solid victory over the Jets.

Buffalo Wins

Baltimore (4-3) at Cleveland (3-4)

Cleveland looks to be doing everything they can to avoid a meltdown this year, but the Ravens are proving that they made the right decision with Flacco. I think that Cleveland has the talent to win, but the Ravens are a tough team to beat.

Baltimore Wins

Houston (3-4) at Minnesota (3-4)

This should be a really good game, and I expect that it will be close, and will likely hinge on a big play that gives one team a lead. I wouldn’t be surprised if this game was decided by 5 points or less.

Minnesota Wins

Green Bay (4-3) at Tennessee (7-0)

I really don’t foresee picking against Tennessee in the next few weeks.

Tennessee Wins

Arizona (4-3) at St Louis (2-5)

St Louis has made HUGE strides the past few weeks, but I expect they will suffer another loss this week to the potent Cardinals offense.

Arizona Wins

Tampa Bay (5-3) at Kansas City (1-6)

KC doesn’t stand much of a chance against Tampa. The only reason they were in the game last week was because of Favre’s carelessness.

Bucs Win

Jacksonville (3-4) at Cincinnati (0-8)

The win here will but Jacksonville at .500 and keep them in the running for a Wild Card spot.

Jags Win

Detroit (0-7) at Chicago (4-3)

How long before we start to hear the rumors that the Lions are moving to LA for a fresh start? They need something to inject some life into this franchise.

Bears Win

Miami (3-4) at Denver (4-3)

Still not buying the Denver hype. Yea, they can score a ton, but their defense is AWFUL!

Miami Wins

Dallas (5-3) at New York Giants (6-1)

Without Romo, this will be over quick.

Giants Win

Atlanta (4-3) at Oakland (2-5)

Atlanta played a really good game against the Eagles, and should come away with a win over former Falcon Deangelo Hall and his new team.

Atlanta Wins

Philadelphia (4-3) at Seattle (2-5)

With Westbrook back in the lineup, the Eagles should be able to make quick work of the struggling Seahawks, putting themselves right in the thick of things in the NFC East.

Philadelphia Wins

New England (5-2) at Indianapolis (3-4)

Week 9 has been a big week for Pats and Colts fans the past few years, and it should be a good game despite Tom Brady’s absence. That said, I think Cassel is growing and is doing well, and should be able to lead the Patriots to a win in Indy.

New England Wins

Pittsburgh (5-2) at Washington (6-2)

No rest for the weary! Pittsburgh has a tough game for the second week in a row, but with revenge on their minds, should be able to keep Washington’s offense from scoring at will, and win in a fairly low scoring affair.

Pitt Wins

Bye: Carolina (6-2), New Orleans (4-4), San Diego (3-5), and San Francisco (2-6)

There you have it… the season is half over, and despite the injuries to big name players, the good teams are showing that they can survive without their stars… the average (or worse) teams aren’t. What do you think? Am I way off base with a pick (or two)? Let me know, by commenting below!

Well, I did a little better last week, but still not where I want to be. At 8-6 (53-49 on the season), I am struggling to push my self up after hovering near .500 so far. With all the ups and downs, it has been really hard to try to be consistent picking games, but it seems like the cream looks like it is starting to rise.

Now for my picks!

Oakland (2-4) at Baltimore (3-3)

In my mind, this one has lopsided written all over it, but based on what has happened this season, anything can happen. I am leaning towards Flacco and the Ravens rather than Russell and the Raiders.

Baltimore Wins

Arizona (4-2) at Carolina (5-2)

I like both of these teams, but I like Carolina better at home this week.

Carolina Wins

Tampa Bay (5-2) at Dallas (4-3)

I think that a lot of what happens in this game depends on whether or not Tony Romo plays or not, because Brad Johnson was terrible last week. Either way I think Tampa is really tough this year and should win this one to stay in first place in the NFC South.

Tampa Wins

Washington (5-2) at Detroit (0-6)

Not much to see here folks, let’s move on.

Washington Wins

Buffalo (5-1) at Miami (2-4)

A good divisional rivalry, that may be a bit uneven if Edwards plays like he did last week. If Buffalo goes up fast, look for “Wildcat” to make an appearance, in an attempt to catch the Bills sleeping.

Buffalo Wins

St Louis (2-4) at New England (4-2)

After the way that NE played Denver, I have faith that they can beat anyone if they put their minds to it. I also have to say that the D looked good against the Broncos high powered offense. I still have to give St Louis their props for knocking off the Cowboys last week.

Pats Win

San Diego (3-4) at New Orleans (3-4)

Both teams have arrived safely in London for their game next week, but New Orleans arrived without RB star Reggie Bush, which could be the difference in this game.

Chargers Win

Kansas City (1-5) at New York Jets (3-3)

I like Favre and his gunslinging style over the Chiefs, especially in The Meadowlands.

Jets Win

Atlanta (4-2) at Philadelphia (3-3)

This one will probably be a really good game, and should be close. Both teams are almost evenly matched, but in key categories I have to give Philly the nod.

Philly Wins

Cleveland (2-4) at Jacksonville (3-3)

With both teams fighting to stay relevant, this game could be a good stepping stone to the rest of the season. Even though both teams have struggled, they should both come out angry, and fighting for the win.

Browns Win

Cincinnati (0-7) at Houston (2-4)

With a win this week the Texans will hopefully start to live up to the expectations that everyone (myself included) had for them at the beginning of the season.

Houston Wins

New York Giants (5-1) at Pittsburgh (5-1)
Game of the Week!

Both teams have had some impressive wins, but I think, that with without Willie Parker and considering that the Giants O-Line is much better than Cincy’s, that the Giants will come out of this one battered, and bruised, but with the win.

New York Wins

Seattle (1-5) at San Francisco (2-5)

What a stinker for Sunday Night. With Nolan gone, will Singletary be able to coach the 49ers to victory? Well, this one is almost a given, but they will be tested in the weeks to come.

San Fran Wins

Indianapolis (3-3) at Tennessee (6-0)

I am really beginning to lose faith in Indianapolis. It is impossible to guess which team is going to show up, but with Tennessee, they have shown up hungry all season, and on the big stage, should be able to improve to 7-0.

Tennessee Wins

Bye: Chicago (4-3), Denver (4-3), Green Bay (4-3), and Minnesota (3-4)

There you have it… Week Seven is gone, and the season is nearly to it’s midpoint. What do you think? Am I way off base with a pick (or two)? Let me know, by commenting below!
