Thank God I have never worked at Wal-Mart

If you have not already heard, Walmart has decided to take $470,000 from Debbie Shank, a 52 year old mother of three (One of her sons recently died in Iraq), who was involved in a terrible car accident crippling her short term memory, leaving her in a wheelchair, and in a nursing home.

Because of the fine print of Walmarts health insurance plan, since Debbie was involved in a car accident and was awarded the money to take care of the tragic aftermath, they are entitled to take all the money that was supposed to go to taking care of Debbie.

THEY ACTUALLY WANT $470,000 from this handicapped woman in a wheelchair, who needs it to be taken care of in the future. This coming from a company that made $90 billion last quarter…

I do feel sorry for the lady - but people *are* always told to read the small print.

Granted, Wal-Mart doesn’t need the money - and businesses aren’t in business to make gratuities… but to make money.

I’m not saying I endorse what they’re doing - but they’re perfectly entitled to do it. It just serves as a reminder to always read the small print, I guess.

(I don’t mean to sound unsympathetic, but… well… small print sucks)

In a way I agree, you should always read what you are signing, and if you can’t understand the legalese, then don’t sign it and have an attorney explain what it says.

On the other hand, stories like these piss me off because, like you said, Wal-Mart (or any other huge corporation) doesn’t need the money, and trying to take it back makes them look like heartless b@st@rds.

If you really can’t figure out where you can get batteries may I suggest drugstores, supermarkets, hardware stores, electronic stores, office supply stores, etc. Some people have never shopped at Walmart.
may we all make wise choices,
    Teresa
